If one were to travel through the rural areas of Los Angeles, they will probably see concrete piles in use almost everywhere. Another interesting project that is mentioned on the site is the underground plumbing and electrical work that was done by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. The main project here was to install new residential wells that do not have the conventional buried drain pipes. The new plumbing and electrical systems are part of a broader effort to improve the quality of the drinking water supply for the city. In addition, the improved water distribution has resulted in a dramatic decrease in the amount of saltwater entering the underground utilities. As a result, Los Angeles now has one of the lowest levels of saltwater in the nation.
The project that I am going to focus on today is the installation of the Hollywood Drive Overcrossing, which is located on the south side of Hollywood Boulevard betweenieth and eighty streets. There are three options for the overcrossing, and it depends upon which utility company you choose to work with. There is the option where the asphalt pavement is overlapped by a retaining wall made of concrete and then topped with a steel reinforcement ring. Then there is another option where the asphalt pavement is completely overlapped by the retaining wall of stamped concrete. Finally, there is the option where the asphalt pavement is completely flat, and then the concrete wall is installed over it. Each of these options has its own set of benefits and drawbacks.
As you can see, the process of having an overcrossing installed is a complicated and lengthy one. It starts with the determination of the location of the overcrossing, and then the selection of a specific utility company to perform the job, and then contract negotiations to build the retaining walls and the concrete slab. It also requires finding a contractor with experience in this type of work, as well as access to qualified workers. After that, it is a matter of clearing and grubbing, demo and removals, and then finally the installation of the new asphalt pavement.
